This is a no-brainer. Pure and Simple - I would live in Oregon.
Many of you came along for the difficult journey between Oregon and California. For those of you who missed out, I will bring you up to speed.
Three years ago, my husband had to leave our home in Oregon and live out of a suitcase for one-year while working in California. It was not fun being apart, but being the incredible man that he is, he did what many others had to do to take care of his family.
After being away for a year, it was apparent that we needed to move to California. It wasn't easy leaving the beautiful state that we called home for 15 years. But, with our son in Arizona, and our daughter thinking she wanted to move to the city, we figured we would quit fighting reality.
Next month will mark two-years living in California. It's been an adjustment, and aside from being near family and some good friends, it still feels like a foreign land. Added to feeling displaced, our children have since moved back to Oregon. My daughter discovered that she is a country girl after all, and our son went back three weeks after graduating college.
Obviously there are places for more exotic than Oregon, and I could list a lot of other places my heart longs to see. Nevertheless....
MY CHILDREN ARE IN OREGON - need I say more?

Top-level comments on this article: (8 total)Oregon was a beautiful place to live and we were in Roseburg for 7 months I think.... no work because people didn't give the spotted owl credit for being able to survive in newer trees if old growth was cut down (they can and do you know) and so with the timber industry stopped in their tracks so did building - Mick is a builder so we ended up in CA.Hi MJ, That is true about Oregon. The wild life does take priority most of the time. But I suppose that is the pay off for the beautiful place that it is. I'm not sure when you lived there, but it has improved. I forget now how many new trees are planted for every one downed. But that improved employment for construction and paper mills. Although now its the general economical state that is hurting our entire country.
The smaller towns are still hurting, but the bigger areas seem to be picking up from what Art heard while he was there a few weeks ago. Love ya!1986-early 1987 and loved it except for some of the very liberal politics....
Teresa, I pray you get your heart's desire!Thank you Lorrie - I'm so happy your heart returned closer to home :-)Me too, T. A four hour drive trumps a 4 hour flight any day!
Never been to Oregon--sounds great from everything I've heard about it. One day, I'll make a visit.Steve, you and your wife must go - it is amazing! Crater Lake, the Oregon caves and just a drive up the coast. WOW. My drive to work was a gift. I went right through the middle of a lake, had dear in my front yard - and sometimes wild turkey. The pace of life is much slower. I miss it soooo much! I know there are other states just as beautiful and maybe even more so, But Oregon ranks high on the list of beauties for this country. And of course, my children are there. GO - you won't regret it.
Aha. Of course. They are in Eugene? Nice college town. Proud of you MOM. Nice article and as "Teresa" as ever.Hi Christofer, they are outside of Eugene, small town of about 4500 - even it is growing. When we moved there 17 years ago, the town had 2500 people. Both our kids had a graduating class of under 100. It's not the smallest town, some of the surrounding towns had 20 - 40 in their graduating class. Thanks so much for your kind words. Blessings! T
Hi Teresa.
No. You needn't say more! And besides, by all accounts, Oregon is beautiful. I imagine that one day you will also find yourself back there.
Hugs,
DianneHi Dianne! Thank you, this is our prayer :-) We try hard not to discount being here, God is doing amazing things while we are here and we are learning and growing. We are happy to be near both of our parents. BUT when my grand-kiddos come along, I don't want to be here, stuck in traffic! Hugs, T
I've been in 46 states, but not Oregon. I've got to get there soon.Hi Jack. That's amazing! I have only been through 6 and lived in two. I bet you have stories to tell. Yes, do put Oregon on your list.
Where have you been the last few days? Story Tellers needs you.Hi Jack. I have missed being here. Beside my full-time job, I have two other projects I am working on right now. Then there is my on-going weekly Bible study that I teach and have to prepare for. It's why I could not commit to being a leader. I am the site manager for World-wide Bible studies (a mini-site to SW), and that keeps me busy as well. Weekends are usually the time for me to catch up here. I will be writing and posting sometime between today and tomorrow. Thank you for checking in - it helps me regain focus. I am behind on two articles - way behind - months, lol! I need to address an ongoing discussion with a fellow writer here, and write on a subject that another friend/writer has asked me to write about. I will get these two done, hopefully this weekend and then write another for our group. Don't give up on me :-) Blessings! T
Nicely written. How does it go? Home is where the heart is? Sometimes we have to tell our heart how to feel.Hi Heidi. Thank you. Yes, home is where the heart is. All in God's timing. Blessings to you!
