A Few Minutes with God: A Devotional on Psalm 125: 1-2 Trust and Victory

Psalm 125: 1-2 Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.

When was the last time you spent your time thanking the Lord for His protection and blessing? Even more so, when was the last time you thanked Him for the trials in your life? James 1:2-3 says: “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

Notice he said “when” not “if” you fall into trials. Most often, my prayers consist of thanks for the good things while complaining about the bad, ending with a request for a quick escape. It seems that the promise of Psalm 125: 1-2, is directly related to the trials we face. Will we trust God and take control of our trials, or will we allow our trials to take control of us? The wisdom we gain when we trust in our Savior, is the strength that will carry us into victory. When we focus on the results instead of the trial, it becomes easier to be thankful.

I encourage you to make a list of everything you are thankful for - starting with the promise of Psalm 125. A heart of thanks will take us a long way and is sure to get our day off to a great start.

Lord, today I am thankful for:

Father, thank you for salvation. Thank you for choosing me as your child. Thank you for your loving hand of grace and correction. Thank you that I can trust in you and the promise of your word, and I look forward to the good that will come as a result of my trials. It's been true in time past and will remain true because of your faithfulness. Thank you for making me as a mighty mountain that cannot be moved when I trust you completely. I love you Lord, You are worthy of all honor and praise; so much more than I know how to give. In Jesus name, Amen

I needed this - I chose to thank Him for the ongoing battle with my meds, blood sugar and blood pressure and asked Him to show me what He wanted me to learn through this all. Thanks T - right on time and right on topic!

ARGH! Trials! I hate going through them, but on the other side, God often shows me why. Often it was for my own protection. Thanks for sharing, T. I am thankful for you!

Hi Lorrie! Thanks for commenting. It is true. I have come to learn that everything is designed for our protection, but we always get in the way of that. I do at least. I am thankful for you too! And not in the trial kind of way either :-)
