A Few Minutes with God: A Devotional on Psalm 67:1-2

Psalm 67: 1-2  “ O God  be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us.  That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among the nations”

Sometimes the craziness of life can cause me to cry out “ Lord, bless me!” However , in these times of desperation, my cry for blessing is hardly so that my life would reflect the ways of the Lord.  It is because I am in need!  For the moment, I am not worried about anything or anyone else. This isn’t altogether wrong,  but why is it that we wait so long to cry out to God?  If we stay close Him daily, before things get out of hand, our cry for blessing will be for the purpose of  being a reflection of His character more often than not.  Stop and breathe.  Everything will be waiting for you in just a few minutes.  You will doing yourself a big favor by spending time with God. Thank Him for His hand of grace in your life.  Give your “ list of things to do” to your heavenly Father.  Ask Him, the Father of time to work the things of this day for His glory so that your attitude will be a reflection of His ways in your world.

Lord,  this morning I am thankful for:

Father,  Forgive me when I am in a state of selfish desperation. Help me to make time for daily communion with you, regardless of my hectic schedule.  I know when I share my heart with you,  my days of desperation are fewer and farther  in between. I desire to reflect the goodness of your character.  I  know that I will be the only Bible some will ever read ( 2 cor:2-3). May I be truth in the eyes of the “nation” around me!  In the most precious name of Jesus, Amen.

Amen. I agree with all my heart. I'm reminded of how Martin Luther said that he did not dare start a day without spending several hours with the Lord in His Word and in prayer. He said that if his day was exceptionally busy, he spent even more time with the Lord.

George Mueller writes in his autobiography that he started each day in God's Word, meditation, and prayer. He said Christians ought to make it their top priority to "get their souls in a joyous state," before the take on their daily tasks.

When I follow their example, my day always goes much better. I want to be in a continual state of calling constantly upon the Lord who is my strength and my joy forever.

Thanks for this great series. I'll pass it along.

Hi Glen. Thank you for your input. Such great encouragement from Martin Luther. I am not familiar with George Mueller, but it is so true. When we look at some great men of God, their lives were filled with quiet time with the Lord. Dave Wilkerson is another great example - he had is time around 3 am. I haven't started quite that early, but I'm adding a little more time each morning. It's too easy to get side-tracked and whisper a quik prayer in the shower or while making lunch - these are good, but hardly sufficient. This is a challenge for me to get back to it! Thanks for passing it on. "Let us stir eachother on to good works..." Blessings! Teresa
