Bored Housewife Takes a Trip with Disco One Hit Wonders: Do You Remember Any of These?

Two weeks ago, my husband and I went to visit his cousin and her husband. I had fallen asleep on the couch around 10pm…then I heard a great noise coming from the speakers; is that what I think it is? No way, it couldn't be-"I love that song"!
That set the pace for the rest of the evening. We were up until 3:30 in the morning running through his 8,000+ Library of hits from the 60's, 70's and 80's! I was in disco heaven! Somewhere after 2:30, he turned on his disco lights and steam. It was one night at the disco all over again, only it wasn't in the outer skirts of Frisco, it was in the family room!
I have been on a disco binge ever since frantically searching for some of the harder to find club disco hits, which rarely played on the radio.
Last night, I tuned my satellite T.V. station to "The Strobe" (Sounded disco to me), to motivate me to work on a project that I have been putting off for quite sometime--and since I was all alone in the house this was the perfect opportunity.
Of all the music in Wayne's library, there were several he did not have, nor had he remembered them.
As luck would have it, "The Strobe" played one of the songs I requested; Mandolay – and this was the beginning of a frenzy that didn't stop until well after midnight, and I am sure will continue for the next few weeks.
I am not ashamed to admit I was dancing in my chair remembering the good ole' dancing days as I plugged away feverishly on my keyboard, which led me into the world of YouTube. I am even willing to admit that when I found this all time favorite, I turned the speakers on max, called my sister, and put my phone next to them so she could hear this long lost dance hit from our days at the "The Great Skate Friday Night Skance". (Four hours of roller-skating followed by two hours of dancing)
Following is a list of artists and songs that just might take you back to a time of fun and laughter. Be warned, this is hardcore disco. Go ahead, be brave, and listen to one or two of them. If nothing else, you might get a much-needed laugh or two.

Teresa I'm an oldie but goodie fan but like em all. Too many to list, good job.HI Robert, thanks for stopping by! Sometimes its fun to have mindless entertainment to break away from life. Of course we know our real source for peace and joy, but this is fun to do on occasion :-)Blessings to you! Teresa
I was in the record business in those days - I remember all of those plus a whole bunch more...some by bin # even now LOL. Thanks for the lift.Hi there! thanks for reading. Bin #? wow. I might have to pick your brain sometime :-)Blessings to you! TeresaKBS3030 - Fleetwood Mac, Rumours. Funny, the human brain, eh?
Teresa,I have to admit I like disco but am more of "funk" gal. I grew up with Earth, Wind & Fire, Barry White, etc. I did not recognize too many of your songs. Ken always makes fun of me when I play it in the car, his response "are your trying to kill me" (ha ha ha). If I let my guard down the cd or station is changed at the first chance he gets ( gotta love that man).Nice article!Janie McCrelessHi Janie, what an honor it is to hear from you! Did you say funk? Oh man, we could have some fun. Okay, what about Cameo? What about the Gap band and Lakeside? Rick James and Tina Marie..I love Earth, Wind and Fire as well. Barry white, you betcha! hhmm, now you got me on another binge :-)Okay, so now "Burn Rubber" and "The Double Dutch Bus" is going through my mind.O-geeze, its going to be another late night for me!So nice to meet you! Blessings to you! TeresaHey, if there's no shredding guitar then what's the point?Don't worry, Def Leppard rocks, so does Styx, Rush and a few others :-)
I have to admit, I remember some of these and liked them. But, I was an 80's nerd. I could go on and on about 80's songs. My daughter rolls her eyes when I do! Thanks for the memories!! Tracey : )Hi Tracy! Nice to hear from you. I love that you call yourself an 80's nerd, ha!Glad you enjoyed the memories. It was hard to decide what to put on this list. It could have been so much longer.I was just watching old clips of the early B-52's earlier. ha!
Teresa,My apologies...I read this earlier this week and thought I had commented. Not so bad, though, because now I'll get some points for it! (RC)Gosh, you stirred up some wonderful memories and made me smile. I few weeks ago, I found somethig similar on the radio and enjoyed the beat and really got into it.Thanks for a trip down memory lane,NancyHi Nancy, I am so glad this made you smile. I needed it the night I put it together. I was missing my husband and my son tremendously and this was just what I needed.Blessings to you! and thanks for the call! I am sorry I missed you. I will call you soon!Hugs, Teresa
hi t,well, you were right, i put the video on, and aside from the clever way they choreographed it, i caught myself snapping my fingers in the first seconds. i never was really into disco, but the music sure does want to make you get up and dance. thanks for bringing it to our attention,my best, sueHI Sue, glad you enjoyed it.I do thank it was a clever video. I loved the little snippit of Elaine - from Seinfeld's one of a kind dance!Keep snappin' those figures and get do dance once in awhile, it lightens the load for a nice breather :-)Blessings to you! t
I was into different music in the 80's. More of a new-waver.Hi Judy, thanks for reading and for leaving a comment. I liked New Wave and some punk too. I still love the Romantics, Devo, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran. I think I like most of the late 70's/80's music even quite a few of the new style rock like AC/DC, Deff Leoppard, Rush and some others. Only thing really that I couldn't stand was classical, opera, metal, and country. In my opinion 80's music was the best all the way around :-) I have been trying to hunt down Yaz, well I haven't tried that hard, but next time I am in the mood for 80's music I will.Blessings to you! TeresaTeresa,I agree. You can't find better music than the 80's. Loved Yaz.
I am so pleased to see that you included "spin it" by sunbelt in your list. He was my brother and was such a talented artist.Hi Anon, thanks for reading and commenting. Spin was an awesome song to dance to and just enjoy! You say "was" talented? I am sorry to hear that.Blessings to you! Teresa
yes, he passed away 15 years ago and my sister and I miss him terribly, however, we are still hearing his song online to this day...very amazing! He has more songs but they have not been published.....maybe one day?I am sorry for your loss. It's a gift that his music and his memory can live on in your hearts. I think it would be wonderful to have the rest of his music shared with all us fans of disco. Let me know if this ever happens.God bless you and your family!Teresa
