On Living in Oregon - Words of Wisdom by Jeff Foxworthy

July 11, 2009, will mark the 15 th year my family has lived in the beautiful state of Oregon.

I share this information with you as one who can testify to the validity of the information I am about to share.

It came my way by email this morning. I, Teresa Ortiz, do solemnly swear that the following information is true, so help me my fellow Oregonian.

From the lips of the great Jeff Foxworthy ~~

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you probably live in Oregon.

If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you probably live in Oregon.

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed the wrong number, you probably live in Oregon.

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you probably live in Oregon.

If you install security lights on your house and garage but leave both doors unlocked, you probably live in Oregon.

If you have switched from "heat" to "a/c" and back again in the same day, you probably live in Oregon.

If you actually understand these jokes and forward them to all your Oregon friends, you probably live or have lived in Oregon.

There are many more on the list but these are true of my life. My husband always helps at least three people before leaving Home Depot. Our Pastor recently shared the 15-min conversation his wife had with someone as a result of dailing the wrong number. My husband wears shorts in 20 degree weather. We don't own umbrella's and not only did I forward this email to my friends, I wrote an article about it.

By the way, currently the sky is bright blue and it is 56 degrees. In a few hours the rain clouds will come and it will drop to 36 degrees. In the morning I will have to chisel the ice off of the windshield and by lunch time I will need to turn on the a/c.

Way to tell it like it is, Mr. Foxworthy--I appreciate the laugh.

Teresa,

I loved this every bit as much as the one I have on Living in Ontario (which could also be attributed to Buffalo. I guess that will be my next article!

Thank you for making me smile.

Hi Nancy,

It would be fun to hear what it is like to live in Buffalo :-)

I am gald you got a smile out of this.  Jeff Foxworthy is one of my favorite comedians, and I love his method of how he teaches his children about faith and his views on sin.  Very practical, yet biblical stuff.

I am looking foward to your next article.  God bless you,  Teresa

Hi Michael,

Thanks for reading. I am glad you enjoyed it.  It really is a beautiful state.  So many lakes and rivers and wildlife.  The trees are endless and the coast is amazing.  My only gripe is it rains too much.  But then again, it wouldn't be this beautiful if it didn't.

I think Jeff Foxworthy has a list of "You might be a _____ if"  I appreciate and enjoy his sense of humor.

Hi Miz Teresa! Thanks for this very funny (& true!) little piece. I lived in Washington for many years (Bainbridge Island) & one of my dearest & oldest friends lives in St. Helens. So I KNOW all this to be true. Even though you didn't write the blurbs, you DID share Mr. Foxworthy's humor...& for that, you get 3 stars! (& yes, I, too, have helped people in Home Depot...lol!). Blessings, hugs & more giggles~~~

Hi Camille, thanks so much for stopping by.  i'm glad you enjoyed this little diddy as much as I did.  Sometimes I wonder if its just me :-)

I'v been thinking about writing about the ocean, and everytime I do, you come to mind.  I think this is something we have in common--sitting on the cliff's looking out into the beauty of Creation. ...so soothing to the soul.

Blessings dear friend!  Teresa

This is hilarious. I just read it to my wife, who was raised in Carlton, Oregon, and she was in stitches. I was raised in Vancouver, B.C., which has similar weather, so I could relate to it also. Thanks for the laugh; it was a great way to start the day.

Yes, I love Jeff Foxworthy. He made the Redneck popular. I even wrote a short poem about a Redneck after hearing him. I'll share it sometime.

Hi Tracy,

Thanks for reading and taking a moment to comment.  I am smiling at the reponse this little diddy is getting.  I'm glad you can relate, I notice you said your parents used to live in Oregon.  I am not sure how much longer we will be in Oregon, but I do love that I have a beautiful lake close by and I pass it every day coming and going into town for work.  And I love the deer that come and eat the apples off of the apple tree in my yard.

Have a blessed day!

Teresa, I live in Florida now however my family in Maine sent me the same thing you have here only related to the state of Maine. In a recent survey on the best states to raise children Maine was considered # 1 of all 50 states. enjoyed your article

Teresa, hahahahhaahhahahahhaa one of my favorite comedians, and I have been in Oregon as well and can attest to the fact of what you say is absolutely true. We were up around the Rogue river doing the "mail run", and I would like to add another saying of my own, that Mr. Foxworthy would agree with; "If you drive up a raging river going upstream, beating against rocks and almost being thrown out of the boat" you probably live in Oregon!!, Another would be; "If you have your mail delivered by a mail boat", you probably live in Oregon! It is so true what you say, and I loved this article, and your wonderful sense of humor, I am still laughing!!!! Your fan, and friend in pen......Gary.

Gary, I love those additions!  We went on the Jet boat excursion up the Willamette River-so much fun!!

We do have on of our own that Art could add --if you walk up to someones house at 5:00am and don't think you will get shot, you might live in Oregon, but beware the person living in the house might be from LA.  ---true story, accept Art didn't shoot my brother in law.  Okay, not funny to some, but we laughed.

Hi Teresa,

Your article was great! It caught my attention because I was born in Portland, Oregon. I truly agree with your statements. I met my husband 25 years ago in Portland, Oregon and I too love Oregon. Although I am surprised you never mentioned anything about all the drizzling rain. Ah!

Take care and God bless to you and your family.

Hi Angie,

Thanks for taking the time to read and leave a comment.  I appreciate it.  I wish I could take all the credit for these great sayings, but I don't want to steal Mr. Foxworthy's thunder. ha!

I can't believe I didn't mention the drizzle! Shame on me :-)

God bless you and your family too.

I am glad I finally took the time to read your article especially since I live in Oregon also. I too received that e mail, thought it was great. I have a hard time without the sunshine for such long periods, but I absolutely love the people. I have some of the most wonderful women friends here than I have ever had in my life. Thank you for sharing. Linda D

Hi Linda!  It is great living here, isn't it.  It's just tough living away from friends and family.

Lord bless you!  Teresa
