A Prayer for Courtney Love

Courtney Love, a rock star--mother--widow.
Courtney
Love: all her mistakes laid out for all the world to see; laughed at and ridiculed by the media and all of society.
Some might think she deserves it, after all, she's the one who wanted fame and fortune. She is the one who chose to do drugs and God only knows what else - but does this mean we judge her so harshly?
If we call ourself a Christian we have no right to join the world in the ridicule, we are to be different. We are to be like Jesus and cry for the lost soul.
We need to remember that God is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance.
So why did I choose Courtney Love? I didn't. About four years ago, God placed a burden on my heart to pray for her. Whenever I see her on television God breaks my heart and the tears begin to flow--somehow I feel as He feels.
When we look at the majority of the rich and famous, it is easy to see that fame and fortune is not all that it is cracked up to be. The world promises that happiness comes from having money and fame. If this is true, we wouldn't see all the drugs, alcohol and divorce. I know I'm not shedding any new light on this matter - I have no new revelation. Nevertheless, I feel compelled to share my story.
My heart is heavy once again this morning as she has been brought to mind. I consider all those who laugh at me because I think to pray for her, why I ask? She is no different than praying for my friends. I may not know her personally, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that she is a hurting woman in need of God.
I am sure I am not alone in praying for someone famous, but the many Christians who buy all the trash magazines just to get the latest juice on some famous person, saddens me. It's obviously easier to trash talk someone else so that we feel better about ourselves. It brings a lot of comfort knowing that there are people out there who sin more than us. But is this really true? What if my life was plastered all over television for all the world to see? Would they not catch the lost temper, the rude word to my child or my speeding down the street running a red light, or what about the person who thinks it's okay to go to a bar just for a "few" beers--only to end up in an accident and cause injury to another person?
Would we see this story on the cover of the "The National Enquirer"? I don't think so. In fact, it probably wouldn't even make the local evening news....
I know that God does not see anyone as a lost cause. As long as there is breath, there is hope. God knows the beginning from the end. He knows those who will choose Him, He knew it before the foundation of the world. Who knows - maybe Courtney Love's name is already written in the Book of Life and she just doesn't know it yet.
My prayer for Courtney
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your goodness, thank you for your grace.
I know you love Courtney, I know you want her as your child.
You do not look at man as we do, Lord we look to the outward
appearance while you look to the heart. You are the only
one who can break through her walls of sadness, disappointment
and bitterness. Father, break the chains that bind her. Father, woo her
to yourself as you did me. Let her hear your voice calling her and give her faith to believe.
Father, as she seeks to fill the void and cover up the pain, may she find you
waiting with open arms and run to you.
Lord, I look forward to the day when all the gifts and talents
you have given her will be used to glorify your name.
In Jesus name, I pray Amen
I am blessed because God has asked me to say a prayer for Courtney Love.
Won't you join in the blessing?

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)Teresa, I felt the same regarding Anna Nichole -- When she died the media spun everything for months and I felt compelled not to view it for the "gossip" but to pray; for her, her family and especially the baby. I think this article made the Lord really happy and hopefully one day Ms. Love may know of it as well - good job!Hi Judi, thank you for the comment. That was a sad situation. It seemed as if she was more popular dead than alive - its a shame and heartbreak that she went to her grave without Christ. (though God knows if she called out to Him in those last few minutes). How sad for her little girl - may God protect this little one and may she come to faith in Him so that the chain of tradegy can be broken from her family's life. This is a reminder to me that I should be praying for all of Hollywood. What a witness these people can be for Christ if they were to get saved. It would be a wonderful miracle if Ms. Love should know about this story. Thanks again Judi. Teresa
Teresa, I feel sad for people like Courtney and all others who's lives are feeling lost. My prayer is for God to bring people into their lives who can share God's word to them. Thank you for reminding us that we need to keep praying for others regardless of their "status" in our society. CindyHi Cindy, Thank you for reading and commenting. I was thinking about what is going on with Brittney Spears - May she surrender to our Lord. She has tried "religion" but I pray that this time she will try Jesus, He is the only one who can heal her and restore her and like Courtney, she can be used in a migthty way to share Christ - people already love her and listen to her, can you imagine how effective she can be for the kingdom of God?! Lord, I pray these ladies would respond to Your voice! In Jesus name, Amen!
I loved reading this, Teresa. When my son was growing up, he was a huge Daryl Strawberry fan. Of course, despite his incredible talent and fame, Daryl struggled over and over in his personal struggle with addiction. My son prayed for Daryl every day. At 29 now, he is one of the most forgiving and compassionate young men I know. I believe his ability to see God's love for his earthly "hero" shaped his ability to love others unconditionally as God has called us to do.Hi BJ, thank you for the words of encouragement. You reminded me of the fact the prayer changes the heart of the prayer as well; as we pray with humility and love for God to save someone who is hurting, it seems as if He does that very thing in our own lives. A former pastor of mine used to say that if we prayed as much as we judged or complained about someone, we would be more like Christ and the other person just might be too. Thanks for the reminder and the comments. God bless you.
Very well written Teresa and such a beautiful prayer! Actually it has only been recently that a celebrity came to heart to pray for them. You cant check out at a grocery store without seeing their faces plastered all over the papers n magazines around you! I think sometimes we as a whole in society either place these people on such a high pedestal or as you say trash n judge them for being famous with all their riches that it doesnt even dawn on us that they are really human!! In other words they arent part of "reality" as if they're a figment of our imagination? A living breathing Soap Opera!!!! In fact it kind of SURPRISED me the day Angelina Jolie n Brad Pitt came to my heart to pray for them n their family!! It was as if i got a revelation, "Hey these are real people with real problems!!" And i was able to see them in light of God's eyes and a sad compassion came over me, even as i write now, tears, and I began to pray for them and especially for all their children... ... ... I use to sometimes think these children of celebrities how lucky they are to be born to fame n fortune!! But are they? Will they be brought up in the way they should go? Will they get the love n nurturing they crave/desire/need from their parents? Or will they just be pacified with material possessions, money, etc... We all know too well the tragic side of what can/could/does happen... THANK GOD for PRAYER!!! God CAN move MOUNTAINS!!!... ... ...Hello Sister from cali - Praise the Lord, for how he works in us and changes our hearts, that we would pray for the peace of others and for them to come to the healing and saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Sometimes we forget those in Hollywood are people too.
Thanks for commenting, it has renewed what has fallen by the wayside. Blessings to you!
